A KNEE WALKER: Mobility and Freedom

A knee walker is a rolling, lightweight mobility device that keeps your injured leg elevated while you get around. It offers 360 degrees of freedom and relieves your other leg of the extra weight you would otherwise have to put on it.

Doctors sometimes refer to them as “knee scooters” or “roll abouts,” but we are talking about the same thing: A walker that supports your non-weight-bearing leg, keeps you stable and helps you get around with comfort and mobility that crutches could never provide.

At eKneewalker, we pride ourselves on being knee walker experts. Over the last 10 years we have tested and approved several models to make sure what we are providing is the best possible device for our patients. This year, we took all of our previous patient feedback, experiences, and other data to design a hybrid model that provides what we believe are the most important features required to aid in a successful non-weight bearing period. Most suppliers are simply not in a position to do this, but knee walkers are our primary focus and we know that a good knee walker:

  • Keeps you upright and stable
  • Requires 10 inch front wheels
  • Brakes Responsively
  • Allow you to free up your hands when needed

Why use a KNEE WALKER?

The non-weight bearing recovery period after a foot or ankle injury or surgery can stretch out into many weeks, and a lot of patients struggle with keeping their injured foot off the ground. In addition to the physical difficulty of getting around when you can’t put any weight on one leg, you’ll be dealing with the sheer frustration of being forced to rely on others for help.

Even worse, if you do inadvertently put weight on the foot or ankle, which can happen if you get tangled up in your crutches, for instance, you risk causing re-injury and even compromising the healing process.

While crutches may be useful on the stairs, constantly using them throughout the day can be exhausting and painful, with your underarms and hands especially always sore. Balancing and turning your body while on crutches is difficult, and when you need to put them aside for a moment, they often fall out of reach.

A knee walker gives you freedom of movement. It is easy to use and does not put an undue burden on other parts of your body, so your focus can be on recovery. Mobility means you don’t have to constantly rely on others. And when you regain your independence, your risk of depression is greatly reduced.

What can I really do with My Knee Walker?

Knee walkers are designed to be light and compact. This makes them easy to handle as well as easy to assemble, collapse and fold. You can quickly stow a knee walker in a cab or the trunk of your car when you head out.

With a knee walker:

  • You can move around freely. This includes along narrow hallways and around sharp corners.
  • You can comfortably shop for groceries, and also move about the kitchen with ease once you get those groceries home.
  • You can finally go out for lunch with friends without the exhaustion and sore underarms crutches would leave you with.
  • You can get back to work sooner without having your boss sweat over the “safety issues” associated with crutches.
  • One patient even told us that while he was on his knee walker, he managed to use the weed eater to edge his lawn! Although we find that very impressive, we don’t necessarily recommend it.

    WHAT OUR CLIENTShave to say

    Total Ankle

8 weeks non-weight bearing was exceedingly difficult for myself and my wife who was stuck with me. The kneewalker allowed me freedom to do things on my own. We were also able to fold it up and take it to the store, PT, and other appointments. Well worth it, would buy again in a second.

Thank you ekneewalker for getting me back in action!
